I am currently sitting in my car, parked on my driveway, spying on my toddler through the rear view mirror as she sleeps soundly with a piece of baguette from Panera hanging out of her mouth. I don’t plan on getting out of the car until she wakes up from her midday nap, which can potentially go on for another hour and a half.
Typically, we have a day of adventures, making sure we get home in time for nap time in the crib at noon. Today was not that kind of day. I’ve been sitting in my parked car with the AC cranked in the Florida heat for the last fifteen minutes because it’s 1:18pm, and there is no way I am chancing waking up my kid after a short twenty minute cat nap.
So, today, I choose to let my kid sleep with a delicious piece of bread hanging out of her mouth. Today, I choose to drink every last drop of water from my kid’s water cup as she sleeps because I am thirstier than I have been in years and I don’t want to accidentally wake my kid up by opening up the car door to get my own refreshing, non-backwashed water that is only twenty feet away. Today, I recline my driver’s seat, kick my feet up onto my steering wheel, and learn to relax in the midst of a fun and crazy day.
To all the mamas parked on their driveways, cheers!
